Entrepreneur Check-In, Issue No. 5: Sprouts!

Issue No. 5. Nothing too wild this month. Just a chill read. Get comfortable.

FRONT PAGE: THE VIBE

I've been saying "trust the process" through gritted teeth for six months. Weeeell, this month I finally said it and meant it. Wow!

THE HIGHS (big & small wins)

• I closed my biggest contract project yet.

The kind of project I started this whole independent career hoping I’d eventually get to do. Big, meaty, strategic work with room to really get in there and think.

• I messed around and started a BLOG.

Because apparently doing the client work wasn't enough. I needed somewhere to put all the other thoughts rattling around in my head too.

THE LOWS (reality checks)

• Some doors closed the same week others opened.

A project I was excited about went with another agency. Another potential retainer is in a holding pattern. It stung. But some clients will walk, and that's okay.

FEATURE STORY: JUST PLANTING SEEDS

For months I've been worrying about so much. Expecting the retainers to close. Expecting follow-ups to get answered. Expecting things to convert on my timeline. But in June...I told myself I'm gonna chill with the whiplash. So I paused on all of it.

The only thing I focused on was planting and waiting. Putting seeds in the ground and trusting that something would eventually come up. You don't get to know which seed blooms. You just keep planting.

And the last week of June...Sprouts appeared! 🌱

Contracts are getting executed, a new writing chapter is opening up, and I'm learning to pace a project-based income like a grown up.
